MOBILE — They have played each other a few times this year. Each game as close. And, don’t let either coach fool you. These two teams do not like one another and there’s no better way to for the rivalry to heat up even more than to add a trip to the state title to the mix.

By beating Faith Academy 50-43 Wednesday in the Class 5A south regional tournament, the Selma Saints have set up a rematch against area rival Wilcox-Central for the regional title and the right to move on to the final four in Birmingham.

Malcolm Riley led the Saints with 14 points, while Tarvaska Rivers chipped in 13. Kerry Mitchell added another 10 points for the Saints who improve their record to 23-8.

The two teams last faced off on Monday, Feb. 14 for the Class 5A Area 5 championship. It was in Selma’s gymnasium where the Jaguars beat Selma 62-54 to win the area tournament.

The regional title game is set for 8:40 p.m. in the Mitchell Center on the campus of the University of South Alabama in Mobile.
