After two weeks of practicing indoors due to weather, the Morgan Academy baseball team was able to get on the field for the first time Tuesday.

It was the first of many for the team, who is getting used to practices with new coach Bob Taylor.

“It’s good to get out here,” Taylor said. “We have been stuck inside for the longest time we are just now getting to get out and really practice.”

The weather broke perfectly for the Senators, who will now have two weeks of practices before their first game next Friday.

Taylor said he may have a young squad, but he expects a lot for his team this season.

“We should be pretty good,” Taylor said. “We only have one senior but we have a lot of juniors and a bunch of good athletes out here.”

The Senators used the break in the rain as a chance to finally be able to get some repetition from home plate and work on fundamentals like base running and fielding overages.

“We are learning right now,” said Taylor. “We are looking towards the season, but we know that early on isn’t nearly as important as how we are playing at the end.”

If one thing is good for Taylor, it is that he has a bunch of pitchers that can be called on at anytime, something that could be important later on.

“We have 14 guys we can put up there,” said Taylor.

“That’s a good amount that you don’t normally see at this level.”

The Senators will be playing their first game on the road.
