The results are simple, you win the first game and you move on, you lose and your season is done.

The new season for high school basketball begins now, and the coaches know what is at stake.

“We had a great regular season this year,” said Selma girls basketball coach Anthony Harris. “That’s great, we appreciate everything the girls did with that, but this is a new season. If we want to get far we are going to have to play with a new enthusiasm.”

Dallas County coach Willie Moore said that it would be defense that would make the difference in the post season.

“When you get to this stage, everyone scouts you,” said Moore. “They know what you are going to do offensively. We have been working on our defense, because that is what will take you far.”

Moore said that even though they will take on a team they have beaten twice this year, that it doesn’t leave room for a let down.

“At this point everyone is 0-0,” he said. “You don’t get bonus points for beating a team in the regular season. Teams can make a whole new run starting now, so we are taking all one game at a time. We can’t overlook someone because they are in the same spot we are.”

Tonight will feature the first round of the girl’s area tournaments.

In class AAAAA area 5, Selma will play Wilcox-Central at 7 p.m. at Selma High School.

The class AAAA area 6 tournaments will be played at Southside High School.

The final will be on Monday at 5:30 at Selma.

Dallas County will face Jemison at 4 p.m. and Southside will take on Bibb County at 5:30.

The final is scheduled for 5 p.m.

The boys side will begin Friday.

Selma will play at home against Demopolis at 7 p.m, with the area final scheduled for 7 p.m. on Monday.

Dallas County will host the boy’s side in Plantersville beginning Friday at 6 p.m. when Dallas County takes on Jemison, with Southside playing Bibb County at 7:30.

The final is scheduled for Monday at Dallas County at 7 p.m.
