North Atlanta linebacker Eddie Johnson signed his national letter of intent with the University of Miami Wednesday morning, backing out of a commitment he made last weekend to the University of Central Florida.
“Miami’s a good school, both academically and football-wise,” Johnson said. “There’s a lot of history there.”
He cited such standout defensive players that have attended Miami, including current NFL stars like linebacker Ray Lewis and safety Ed Reed.
Johnson said that he was looking for a school he could call home during the long recruiting process, which also saw him for a time commit to Louisville, and Miami fit the bill.
Johnson had a standout senior year with the Warriors, posting 90 tackles on defense and also catching four touchdown passes during his only season at the Buckhead high school. His junior year, he played at Selma High School in Alabama, recording 78 tackles, eight sacks and an interception, as well as 560 rushing yards and 137 receiving yards, according to the Orlando Sentinel. He is listed as a three-star recruit by Rivals.com.
