Through it all, Daniels stands tall

Wallace Daniels is a large man; tall and as someone said the other day “old man strong.”
He walks in and with a voice as controlled and cordial as a well-brewed glass of sweet tea, simply says “Thank you. That’s what I want to tell people. Thank you.”
Three months ago, Daniels found himself beaten, cut and left for dead in the dark in north Dallas County, the victim of a vicious attack and robbery.
His neck had been cut, his head bleeding from a violent strike and his truck and some personal belongings stolen.
In his conversation with our reporters Monday, a conversation initiated by Daniels with the sole purpose of thanking the countless well-wishes he has had since the attack and through his recovery, he never once talked of the suspects now in custody. He simply wanted to focus on moving forward, completing his recovery and showing his appreciation.
“I appreciate everybody that came by to check on me,” he said. “It’s hard to put it into words how much it meant. It gave me encouragement and helped me get well quicker.”
Through it all, Daniels said he isn’t focused on the attack and is proud of the community where he lives.
“It happened and it’s over and hopefully nothing like that will ever happen again out here,” he said.
Daniels, a person who never asked for the limelight or any accolades, is a person we should all look up to and not simply because he’s tall.
Mr. Daniels, while you’re out and about thanking so many people. Let us be one of the first to tell you, sir, “thank you.”
