A 17-year-old male was arrested Thursday morning for allegedly burglarizing an Old Town home.

The juvenile, now in custody in the Dallas County Juvenile Detention Center, reportedly broke into a home in the 200 block of Lapsley Street, stealing “some electronic items.”

According to Selma police Lt. Michael Harris, authorities received a report of someone breaking into the home Thursday morning. Once units arrived on the scene, they noticed the juvenile in the area.

Police pursued the suspect through much of Old Town, finally cornering him on a roof on Pettus Street.

“He was trying to get away from the officers,” Harris said. “Suspects will go to any lengths necessary to get away. Even climbing on top of a roof.”

Sgt. Reginald Fitts made his way on top of the roof to secure the suspect while other officers found a ladder to get the suspect down.

The juvenile is being held in the detention center and has been charged with robbery third.

“The suspect had hid the electronic items in a nearby lot and we were able to recover them,” Harris said.

Authorities did not release the suspect’s name since he was a juvenile.
