So what is all this nonviolence talk about?

We talk a lot about the dream and Dr. King and nonviolence.

But do we really know what we’re talking about?

Nonviolence is hard. It requires first that we know who we are, and not just in the philosophical sense, but to live in awareness. That means knowing what is going on. Knowing and being aware of what we do and what we are each minute.

That’s hard living. Because once we become aware, it’s then we realize how interwoven we are. We are not individuals, but we are interdependent, meaning everything — idea, event, experience — exists as a part of the tapestry that makes up this world.

How we deal with this makes all the difference.

I believe in this weekend meditating on the life and death of Dr. King this is the key to understanding nonviolence.
