David Matthew “Matt” “Dada, White boy” Smitherman, age 38, of Selma, AL, passed away January 8, 2011.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Florence Campbell and paternal grandparents, J. L. and Elizabeth Smitherman.

He is survived by his wife, Jamie Hughes Smitherman; daughters, Taylor Marie Smitherman and Tori Michelle Smitherman; parents, Ronnie and Debra Smitherman; maternal grandfather, Buford Campbell; brothers, Paul (Alicia) Smitherman and Stephen (Jennifer) Smitherman; aunts and uncles, Willis and Brenda Scurlock, Roger Campbell, Glen and Linda Moore and Buford and Melissa Campbell; nieces and nephews, Haley Smitherman, Amy Smitherman, Megan Smitherman, Kloie Smitherman and Stephen “Bubba” Smitherman; brother and sister-in-law, Steve and Monya Hughes and their children, Hannah and Cameron; father and mother-in-law, Bud and Bunny Hughes; numerous cousins and lots of friends. He is also survived by his dog, Bitti.

Funeral services will be Saturday, January 15, 2011 at 3:00 p.m. at Selma Funeral Home with interment in Mt. Pleasant Church Cemetery with Tom McLemore officiating and Selma Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home prior to the service at 1:00 p.m.

Serving as pallbearers will be, Paul Smitherman, Jimmy Gardner, Mitch McKinney, Tommy Smitherman, Al Dubose, Stephen Smitherman, Frank Thornton, Christy Scurlock, Steve Hughes, John Latham, Terry Burton, Luke Hatfield, Ray Glass, Richard Gardner, Ben Smitherman, Bobby Barnette, Bobby Langston, Tommy Herrod, Bobby Ratliffe and the employees of Asphalt Contractors.
