In the LAA#2 election, Jule Booker, W. H. Kendrick, and Owen Yoder came in second, third, and fourth respectively, in the election, which was held between November 5 and December 6, 2010.

In LAA#3 election, William D. Minor, and Willie Williams came in second and third respectively, in the election, which was also held between Nov. 5 and Dec. 6.

First and second alternates serve, respectively, in the absence of the elected committee member for a three-year term. They may also be called upon to fill the unexpired term of the committee member.

County FSA committee elections are held annually, according to Woodruff. Candidates are nominated by local farmers and ranchers, and must live in the county or local administrative area they will represent, and must be eligible to vote in the county election.

Duties of county committee members include:

• Informing farmers of the purpose and provisions of FSA programs

• Keeping the state FSA committee informed of local administrative area conditions

• Recommending needed changes in farm programs

• Participating in county meetings as necessary

• Performing other duties as assigned by the state FSA committee.

Yeager and Beers will join George Hammonds, Williams McCurdy, Jeff Cogle and Stephen Logan.

The committee members will hold their organizational meeting on Wednesday, Jan. 12 at the local FSA Office at 105 Samuel O. Moseley Drive, Suite A, Selma.

Meetings are open to the public.

The county committee chairperson and vice-chairperson will be selected at this meeting. The Dallas/Lowndes FSA County Committee meetings are held each second Wednesday of each month at 9 a.m. at the local FSA office.
