Two suspects bound over to grand jury

A Dallas County grand jury will hear the case against two Dallas County men, charged with attempted murder, burglary and kidnapping last month.
William Goodman and Johnathan Pitts appeared in Dallas County District Court for a preliminary hearing.
After the hearing, Judge Bob Armstrong ruled the district attorney’s office had found enough evidence against Goodman and Pitts to present the case before the grand jury.
Dallas County Sheriff’s investigator Sgt. John Hatfield told the court he believes Goodman and Pitts forced their way into Wallace Daniel’s house Nov. 8, beat him in the head with what appeared to be a brick.
Hatfield told the court Goodman was armed with a handgun at the time and Pitts had a knife.
Hatfield submitted a statement to the court that revealed the two suspects tied up Daniels with an electrical cord, and then put Daniels in his vehicles.
“Offenders carried Daniels to the Burnsville Community and attempted to cut his throat and then Daniels was thrown in a lake and left for dead,” Hatfield’s statement read.
Authorities said the two went back to one of their houses to pick up an 18-year-old female. They drove to Anniston, where they contacted a woman and asked her for money. Authorities there believe when she refused them, the pair broke into a local car shop and took some money. Then, the pair went to Tennessee.
Last month during a bond hearing, Hatfield told the court the pair pawned a ring that belonged to the 18-year-old with them at the pawnshop just outside Chattanooga.
The trio went back to Alabama and got to Gadsden, where they ran out of gas.
District Attorney Michael Jackson said the next grand jury will meet in late January.
