A fire in the Wilcox Central High School auditorium Wednesday caused minor damage, but did not result in any injuries.

Jennifer Abrams, secretary to the superintendent of Wilcox County Schools, said the fire started around noon in the stage area of the auditorium, “well removed from the students.”

The fire had no connection with any other events on campus or the arrest of the school’s principal, former state Rep. James Thomas, authorities said.

Students at the high school were released about 30 minutes early Wednesday.

School hours will resume as regularly scheduled on Thursday, Abrams said.
