The 10 best of 28 applicants for two vacant positions on the Selma Water and Sewer Board will be selected soon.

The Selma City Council Administrative Committee met briefly Friday afternoon to receive 28 resumes and letters of interest from various city residents. The deadline for applications was 4:30 p.m. Oct. 8.

The vacancies became and the council had intended to appoint to fill the two slots by Oct. 18. The terms of Councilwoman Bennie Ruth Crenshaw and Water and Sewer Board Chairman the Rev. Lee Goodwin have expired.

Administrative committee chair Councilman Corey Bowie said the committee will interview all 28 applicants for the position. Only Goodwin has re-applied. Crenshaw’s application was not among those made public Friday.

“You can’t just look at the resume alone,” Bowie said. “You have to interview.”

In the past, the council has appointed a council member to sit on the board.

“We are getting away from that,” said council President Cecil Williamson, “and moving to a citizen board.”

The interviews are set for Thursday, Oct. 28, 4 p.m. until 8 p.m.; Friday, Oct. 29, 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. and Monday, Nov. 1, 4 p.m. until 8 p.m., Williamson said.
