SELMA — Logan Ferrell may have received the crown Tuesday night as the 2010 Miss Central Alabama Fair, but fair organizers were still buzzing Tuesday about a crowning achievement of their own.
Monday’s attendance to the opening night of the 54th annual Central Alabama Fair was a record, with more than 1,700 guests pouring through the turnstiles.
“We think it has a lot to do with the publicity leading up to the fair, the rides, the food and the vendors,” event organizer Ed Green said. “But, it also has a lot to do with the absolutely gorgeous weather we’ve had. This is fair weather. It’s perfect.”
Tuesday’s attendance also appeared strong, as hundreds turned out for the events, rides and the annual Miss Central Alabama Fair pageant. The Little Miss Central Alabama Fair pageant and Tiny Miss Central Alabama Fair pageants will be held Saturday.
For Green though, the rides, food and exhibits are one thing, but it is the petting zoo that has garnered his attention.
“That has really been a hit with the small fries,” Green said, talking of the children. “Even the small pigs have figured out that if they stand still long enough, they will be able to get their backs and bellies scratched. It’s a win-win.”
With good weather expected throughout the week, Green and other Lion’s Club leaders are expecting the good crowds to continue.
“We’re looking forward to more of the same,” Green said. “We’ve got a lot out here for people to enjoy and we have the weather to go along with it.”
