Protectors step up to the plate once again

This week, the Selma Fire Department unveiled a new engine truck, complete with some of the most state-of-the-art firefighting and lifesaving equipment around.
But unfortunately, the men and women of the Selma Fire Department were asked to put that equipment to use far sooner then they had planned. This time, it was put to use in order to protect a portion of one of Selma’s more historic districts from a horrendous blaze.
The early Friday morning blaze on Church Street, completely consumed a historic home and in the process put at risk surrounding homes and families.
Although they were unable to save the house, the quick response of those in the Selma Fire Department and the Selma Police Department was able to protect neighboring houses from destruction and the families who call them home.
There are times when money spent by cities and governmental bodies is highly questioned by the taxpayers. There are times when certain expenses are considered wasteful or at the very least, unwise.
Not so with the money spent on the new fire equipment, the men and women of our public safety services and the money invested in their training.
Those dollars spent are definitely a good investment for us all.
