Ken Novak named VP for economic development by Alabama Power

BIRMINGHAM — Ken Novak has been named vice president with responsibilities for economic and community development, according to Alabama Power Co.

Novak has nearly 20 years of economic development experience. He was manager of economic and community development for Alabama Power, responsible for recruiting companies to the state and managing community development efforts.

He began with Alabama Power in 1981 as a junior engineer in Birmingham.

Two-year college chancellor in hot water

MONTGOMERY — The Tuscaloosa News reports two-year college Chancellor Freida Hill was chastised by the State Board of Education for not keeping them informed about important decisions.

Members of the board heard through the grapevine about Hill’s proposal to consolidate the Alabama Technology Network and the Alabama Industrial Development Training Institute.

The News reported the exchange between Hill and her board occurred during a Wednesday work session. Hill apologized to the board.
