School financial officers interviews begin

SELMA — Interviews begin today for the school financial officer position in the Selma City Schools System.
The interviews begin at 5:30 p.m. at the Central Office on Broad St.
The position became vacant this month when former school financial officer Maria Glover resigned to accept a similar position with Fairfield City Schools in Jefferson County.
The first two candidates are Willie Johnson and Adondra Williams.
Johnson, of Selma, has a master’s in accounting from Troy University Montgomery. She also earned her bachelor’s from Troy in 2006, and has an associate degree in computer science from Wallace Community College Selma. Johnson has six years experience as an office manager, bookkeeper and payroll clerk.
Williams, of Selma, has a bachelor’s in business administration from Concordia College, which she earned in 2003. During the last 30 years, Williams has worked as a cashier, bookkeeper, sales assistant, secretary, program assistant, payroll clerk, computer operator, administrative support assistant in state government and administrative assistant.
Today will begin the first of the interviews.
Frank Chestnut Jr., committee chairman of the selection committee, said the interviews will be open to the public, but only committee members will ask questions during the interview.
“The interviews will be structured and consist of no more than 10 questions,” Chestnut said. “After the interviews, the committee will recommend two or three candidates to be interviewed by the board in a public forum.”
Brenda Randolph-Obamanu said she will attend the hearings, although she is not a member of the committee. “I might have to ask a question,” she said.
Chestnut said other school board members could submit questions.
Other interviews and times include:
•Grindal Harris and Cynthia Mitchell, 5:30 p.m. Thursday — Harris, of Selma, has an associate degree in computer science from Wallace Community College Selma and a bachelor’s in accounting from the University of Alabama Birmingham. She in two decades, she has worked as a student financial aid assistant, administrative assistant, bookkeeper, receptionist, statistical technician, accounting manager and senior accountant.
Mitchell, of Selma, has a bachelor’s in business administration and accounting from the College of New Jersey. In 35 years she has worked as a state auditor, accountant, accounts payable supervisor, financial cost analyst, general accountant and city treasurer.
•Elouise Brown and Shasta Brown, 5:30 p.m., Sept. 7 — Elouise Brown, of Selma, has a master’s in business management from Troy University; a bachelor’s in business from the University of Alabama and she attended Wallace Community College Selma. She has worked in customer service, accounts payable, as a bookkeeper and payroll clerk.
Shasta Brown, of Selma, has a master’s in accounting from Troy University Montgomery; a bachelor’s in accounting from Auburn University Montgomery and is working on a degree in human resources management at Troy University Montgomery. She has worked as an accountant and office manager since 2002.
