New White Hall bingo hall brings loads of dilemmas

Dear editor,
I am very disappointed to hear that the White Hall bingo facility is re-opening. I have been a business owner in Dallas County for nearly 30 years. Despite the current national recession, our business, Alabama Powersports, has added employees and seen growth since the White Hall bingo facility closed. With it reopening, continued growth in our business and many others in Selma will be questionable. This operation takes in thousands of dollars from resident’s pockets every weekend and also out of Dallas County, not to mention the city tax dollars which we desperately need.
This facility will drain our local economy and it will do absolutely nothing to improve it. Bingo in White Hall and other casino-type operations enjoy an unfair advantage.
Their competition is limited by government regulations. Our business and many others cannot enjoy near-monopoly status like the casinos do.
I do not support this operation re-opening and hope that many others realize its negative effects.
