The National Weather Service in Birmingham has said an excessive heat warning remains in effect for all of Central Alabama today.
Afternoon temperatures will reach the upper 90s to lower 100s with heat indices of 108 to 115 degrees.
Temperatures tonight will fall into the mid-to-upper 70s, providing little relief from the heat.
Strong storms will be possible across all of Central Alabama from noon until 9 p.m. The main threats will be wind gusts up to 50 mph and brief, heavy rainfall.
The excessive heat warning has been extended through Thursday evening as hot and humid conditions will continue.
Forecasters expect temperatures to be a couple of degrees cooler on Friday, but still hot. The weather service has issued a heat advisory for Friday and may need to be extended into the weekend.
