SELMA — Golf carts swarmed back to the clubhouse at Selma Country Club with most players just two holes from finishing their round.

The inaugural member-member tournament at Selma Country Club was dampened by a brief, but strong, thunderstorm Saturday afternoon, forcing an early start to today’s final round.

The second round will start at 1 p.m. as scheduled, but the first round will have to be concluded at noon.

Tommy Burns, Selma Country Club golf pro, said the tournament was designed as a different type of event to keep members engaged. He said it is a two-man best net score format.

“We’re trying to create more events for our members to play in,” Burns said. “It’s just something for some extra fun.

There will be a chip-off at the end of today’s round with merchanidise gift certificates going to the winners.

Each player will chip from a designated location on the ninth hole and the closest person to the hole will win.

Will Pearce said he liked the chip-off because it’s more relaxed and will build camaraderie.

“It’a all in fun,” Pearce said. “There’s going to be a big crowd up here and everybody is going to laugh together or cheer together.”
