Polls open at 7 a.m. and close at 7 p.m. today for registered voters to cast their ballots.

Voters will find a variety of federal, state and local races on their ballots.

This is a primary election, meaning a voter must choose to vote in either the Republican or Democratic primary.

A voter may not crossover vote in a primary election. That means the ballot you choose is the one you’ll vote.

In the November election, voters will be able to vote for either party.

In Dallas County and Selma, voters will have the option of voting for a U.S. senator, a candidate in the 7th District congressional race, for governor, lieutenant governor, treasurer, attorney general and agriculture commissioner.

Legislative races affecting Dallas County Selma include Senate District 23 and House District 67 and House District 69.

Local races include 4th Judicial District district attorney, Dallas County sheriff and Dallas County district judge.

Several candidates for the Democratic Executive Committee will show up on the ballot in the Democratic primary.
