Betty Jones

Betty Nunnally Jones was born on March 30, 1929 in Etowah County to the late John Algernon and Edna Loucille Maise Nunnally. She passed away on May 20, 2010.
Services were held on Sunday, May 23, 2010 , 2:30 p.m. at Siloam Baptist Church. Burial followed at the Marion Cemetery.
The services were officiated by Reverends John Nicholson and James Layton Waters, Jr., and directed by Kirk Funeral Homes Marion Chapel. Pallbearers included William Woodfin, Breck Jones, Don McMillian, Tommy Jones, Ray Edwards, and Jeff Fowler. Honorary pallbearers included the Deacons of Siloam Baptist Church and her Sunday School Class, and the Kalico Kitchen Thursday Bridge Club.
Ms. Jones was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband, Charles Robert Jones of Marion; sister, Joyce Richardson (Joe) of Marion, and numerous other relatives.
Mrs. Jones attended Shorter College in Rome, Georgia. She received her B.A. and B.S. degree from Jacksonville State University and her M.A. from the University of Alabama.
She taught school from 1950 until 1968 at Dwight Elementary School, Alabama City ; Bay County High School, Panama City, Florida; Perry County High School, Marion; and Suttle High School, Suttle. In 1969, Mrs. Jones began working for the Department of Human Resources in Perry County as the supervisor of the food stamp program. She retired in 1994.
She was active in Siloam Baptist Church in Marion and various civic organizations in Perry County. She served as District Governor of Pilot International in the late 1970s and as District Director for the Federated Women’s Club in the 1980’s.
