Let there be lights at Memorial Stadium.

The Selma City Council will accept bids for new lights at the stadium on Dallas Avenue on June 8.

The city’s recreation director Elton Reece said Tuesday architects have delivered plans and specification for the new poles and lights for the football field at Memorial Stadium. The architects are expected to meet in a pre-bid conference with nine companies that have shown interest in the project. The pre-bid meeting is scheduled for Thursday, 2 p.m.

Memorial Stadium serves as the football site for Selma High School and Concordia College, while Central Christian Academy also has games there.

City officials say they hope the project is completed in time for the first football game Aug. 27.

As soon as lights begin construction, the architecture will assimilate the specifications for renovation of the stadium. The renovation should begin Oct. 27 after the last home football game.

Mayor George Evans said he’d like to see the project completed in time for the city to host the state track meet in 2011.
