Concerned about the effects of taking multiple prescriptions? Unsure of the proper manner to install a car seat? In need of a visit to the doctor?

Visiting the sixth annual Dallas County Fun and Family Health Day at Wallace Community College-Selma can calm all these concerns, plus many more.

“It’s an opportunity to get free health care advice and free health care screenings,” said Patricia Cockrell, health fair coordinator. “A lot of people don’t have full medical coverage and gives them a chance to talk with a physician.”

The fair will be held Saturday from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. A walk/run will also begin at 9 a.m. All members of the community are invited to both free events.

Screenings will be offered for HIV, glucose, weight, osteoporosis, prostate checks, cholesterol checks, as well as a car seat exchange, plus many other health related checks.

“This could almost serve as someone’s doctor’s visit,” said Dr. Bruce Taylor, a local physician.

More than 80 medical assistants and nurses will be on-hand to run tests such as cholesterol checks. More than 10 doctors and nurse practitioners will be available for consultations.

The Selma Fire Department will conduct the car seat exchange.

Members will inspect seats, ensure proper installation and exchange a seat for a proper one if the seat is too old or is an item that has been recalled.

All car seats have been donated.

Participants are also welcomed to visit the more than 40 health-related vendors for any further questions.
