The Selma City School Board met for a called board meeting Tuesday to discuss the good name and character of a certified staff member.

After calling the meeting to order and establishing a quorum, the board went into executive session for three hours and 18 minutes.

President Henry Hicks asked all principals to stay and wait through the executive session.

After about an hour, he came back into the boardroom to offer an update that the meeting would continue for another 30 minutes or more and that all principals were allowed to leave.

About six principals chose to stay until about 7:30 p.m.

The executive session ended almost an hour and a half later.

“While we were in executive session, no action was taken,” Hicks said. “We discussed good name and character.”

District 1 representative Holland Powell shrugged his shoulders and said, “No surprise ending.”

The board will meet again today at Sophia P. Kingston at 6 p.m. for a monthly board meeting.
