Clara Bailey Daniel of Marion died May 7, 2010.
Memorial services will be held at the Marion United Methodist Church , Tuesday, May
11, 2010 at 11:00 a.m.
Graveside services will be at the family plot in the Clayton Baptist Cemetery, in Clayton, Alabama at 4:00 p.m.
Mrs. Daniel was born March 28, 1925 in Troup County, Georgia, but moved to Macon, Georgia as an infant.
She was an honor graduate of A.L. Miller High School and she received her BA degree, cum laude, from Mercer University in 1948.
She worked as a chemist prior to her marriage to the late Rodger C. Daniel Jr. Mrs. Daniel came to Marion to work as a chemist at the US Fish and Wildlife, Fish Cultural
Lab.
She ended her career teaching math and science at Francis Marion High School.
She did individual tutoring and mentoring until her health failed this year.
A lifelong member of the Methodist Church, she was a member of various civic and social organizations and part-time Sunday School Teacher at the Marion United Methodist Church.
The parents of Mrs. Daniel were the late Henry Irby Bailey and Martha Morgan Bailey of LaGrange and Macon, Georgia.
She was preceded in death by a twin sister, Claire Bailey Reid (Rev. Carlton Reid of the
South Georgia Conference).
She was the widow of the late Rodger C. Daniel, Jr. of Montgomery County, Alabama and is survived by one daughter, Martha “ Marty” Daniel (Ralph Polley) of Houston , Texas; one son, Rodger Charles Daniel III (Joyce Kunert Daniel) of Alpharetta, Georgia; two grandchildren, Gerhard Rodger Daniel, age 20 and Claire Alexandria Daniel, age 15, of Alpharetta, Georgia; one step grandson, Jonathan Polley (Georgia Williams Polley) of Houston, Texas; and two great-grandsons, Hawkins Walter Polley and Foard James Polley. She is also survived by one nephew, Carl F. Reid (Kay Wilkes Reid) of Reidsville, Georgia, three great nephews, four great great nephews, and two great great
nieces.
Presiding Clergy is the Rev. James Layton Waters, Jr. Kirk Funeral Homes Marion Chapel will direct the services.
Pallbearers will be Robert W. Eiland, Jeff Fowler, Timothy Nichols, Don Boyle, Brad Sturgis, Jonathan Polley, and Gerhard Daniel.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Dr. George Williams, members of the Davis Class of the Marion United Methodist Church, members of Delta Kappa Gamma Teachers Sorority.
