Dallas County wins region

GULF SHORES — Dallas County High School is an area champion, a region champion and will now try to become a state champion.

The Hornets beat Thomasville 2-0 Saturday morning and won a rematch with Ashford 7-3 in the region championship and will move on to the state tournament next week in Montgomry.

The tournament starts on Thursday, but the Hornets’ first game may not be until Friday.

Cassie Daniels struck out 17 in a one-hitter against Thomasville and 14 against Ashford in two-hitter.

She recorded 61 strikeouts in the four games and was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player.

Dallas County also committed only error during the tournament.
