School’s out for summer, at least for the students of Concordia College-Selma.

Graduates, staff members and proud family members gathered Saturday in the Julius and Mary Jenkins Center for Concordia’s 2010 Spring Commencement ceremony.

“Congratulations for all your accomplishments,” said Rev. Dr. Gerald Kieschnick, president of The Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod, and guest speaker at the commencement. “You have reason to be very proud, in a humble way of course, of this very day.”

Following the ceremony, the graduates gathered with friends and family with smiles on their faces.

“It feels wonderful,” said Shatasha Dukes, who graduated with a bachelor’s degree in elementary education. “I feel accomplished.”

Dukes was not alone in her feelings.

“It’s an awesome feeling,” said Audree Franklin, who also got her bachelor’s degree in elementary education. “I am extremely happy to be done.”

Some of the graduates will be moving on to jobs, some to other schools and still others will return to Concordia to earn more degrees.

“I finished with my associate’s degree in business administration,” said Nicole Martin. “So I am coming on back to finish with my bachelor’s degree. I have about a year and a half left.”
