PLANTERSVILLE — Dallas County High School will put its 23-game home winning streak on the line today in the area tournament.

That streak was almost ended Monday when the Class 4A No. 10 Hornets (23-1-1) fell behind 4-1 to Demopolis, but rallied in the fifth inning for a 6-5 win.

Dallas County coach Ed Miller said the win was good for the team because it showed them they are capable of coming back on a good team.

“We made some mistakes and Cassie (Daniels) wasn’t pitching her best,” Miller said. “We were down 4-1 and I told them relax and pretend we are in Gulf Shores (in the regional tournament).”

The Hornets will have the chance to earn a trip to Gulf Shores for real today. Southside will play Greensboro at 9:30 a.m. with the winner facing Dallas County at noon.

The losers of those two games will meet at 2 p.m. and the championship will be decided at 4 p.m.
