A 17-year-old Selma resident is in the juvenile detention facility here after becoming combative with officers trying to arrest him.

The juvenile, whose name is not released because he is under age, was arrested on charges of public intoxication, criminal mischief, resisting arrest, harassment and making terrorist threats.

The incident occurred Friday, April 23, about 9:15 p.m., when Selma police officers stopped a male in the area of Washington Street and Dallas Avenue.

“After talking with the subject, officers determined he was 17 years old and under the influence of alcohol and a danger to himself and the public,” said Sgt. Doug Stewart, administrative division commander for the Selma Police Department. “Officers placed the subject under arrest for public intoxication.”

After his arrest, the 17-year-old attempted to fight police officers, who had to restrain him before placing him inside the patrol car.

“The 17-year-old then began threatening officers’ lives and their families’ lives,” Stewart said. “The arrestee then kicked out the back window of a patrol unit.”
