Walking at lunch break

Published 7:27 pm Tuesday, April 6, 2010

Starting next week, every downtown employee, or downtown visitor, should take 15 minutes each day to get healthy.

Now that the weather is warm and afternoons are relatively clear, Vaughan Community Health Services is encouraging people to spend time outdoors.

They have created a loop in the downtown block of City Hall and the Selma-Dallas County Library designed to allow employees to take 15 minutes each day to walk during a lunch or afternoon break.

The path will start outside the Selma-Dallas County Library and span a block from Broad Street and Dallas Avenue, around to Washington Street, to Selma Avenue and back to Broad Street.

Twice around this loop is one mile.

Signs will be placed along the route marking mileage from point to point.

The route will be contained to one side of the road, completing a circle of the entire block.

Although signs will not be up until next week, give the loop a try. Learn to get in the habit of exercising, even before the signs are placed.

All you need is 15 minutes.
