Morgan takes second in track

Morgan Academy hosted an official Alabama Independent School Association track meet Monday at Memorial Stadium.

The Senators fared well in the event finishing second in both the men’s side with 66 points and the women’s side with 115 points.

Lee-Scott Academy won both sides of the event with scores of 74 points in the men’s and 171 points in the women’s side.

Winners for Morgan in individual men’s individual events were: John Cox, Heath Brantley, Scott Barton and Austin Smitherman in the 4×100 meter relay.

Smitherman also claimed first place in the 100 and 200-meter dash.

On the girls side Catherine Armstrong, Mary Peyton Zimmerman, Anne Woodruff and Sarah Fraiser brought home the win for Morgan in the 4×100 meter relay.

Fraiser also won the 100 and 200.

Rachel Gomes won first place in the long jump for Morgan as well at the 100 and 300-meter hurdles.

“We would like to finish one of these in first,” said Morgan coach Rob Robinson. “But we still have another meet before state to get there.”
