Anybody who knows Woodie Jackson knows a prince.

In November he began his second season as the Saints head basketball coach. But coach Jackson is no rookie.

Jackson is a Hall of Famer, having recently been inducted into the Alabama High School Activities Association hall of honor.

It’s well deserving.

Here’s some of the firsts:

First coach of the Alabama-Mississippi Game, 1991; he coached the game in 2000, too, and won both.

He was the first coach in 1978 of the North-South Game. Another victory.

He won the 2008 McDonald’s game.

Jackson is 40 years in the business.

He coached at Francis Marion from 1987 until 1992, went to Dillard University for two years, then returned to Francis Marion for another stint, 1994-2008.

Here’s what he did: 11 state tournament appearances; six state championships; one state runner-up; four state titles in a row, 1988-1991, in Classes 1A, 2A, 3A. Just look at the ring on his finger.

This year Jackson took Selma High to the Central Region Final, where they lost to Carver.

If you see him around, don’t just pass him by. Congratulate Jackson. He’s deserving of the honor.
