Old Town was hopping all of Saturday as people from Selma and guests alike took advantage of the good weather as the jumped from historic home to historic home during the Pilgrimage.

“It’s been going remarkably well,” said Nancy Bennett, a committee member of the Selma Historical Society. “We have had great crowds and guest from everywhere.”

“It has been very nice,” said Carolyn Vintson from Selma. “We have been to the Pew House and Nettie’s Cottage. We go every year and love it.”

While Selma natives made a number of the guests, several of the visitors came from out of town.

The Hardys from Millbrook, didn’t know they would be visiting for the pilgrimage but were glad they did.

“We just decided to take the doors of the jeep and drive,” said Greg Hardy. “This is where we ended up.”

The trip was not wasted.

“We have loved it,” said Bonnie Hardy. “We have been to quite a few places. I learned about the old homes here after I read about Sturdivant Hall because I’m into paranormal homes.”

Other guests from out of town came with more of a plan.

“We saw something about it in the Saturday’s paper,” said Rod Penvel of Birmingham. “I followed that up by looking up the pilgrimage online.”

He and Linda Wagner both enjoyed their time during the tour.

“It’s been great,” said Wagner. “Not only were the houses and structures wonderful, but the people have been great. We have been stopping and having conversations with the people from Selma.”

The pilgrimage will conclude Sunday afternoon.
