The luck of the Irish abounded at Tally Ho on Wednesday.

Attendants of the 30th annual Tally Ho fundraiser, an event of the Selma Rotary Club, had a chance to win raffled items of local vendors. All proceeds of the event this year benefited the March of Dimes.

The original event occurred Monday. After raising $600 Monday, manager Renee Wilkerson decided to hold the event again Wednesday to earn more money to donate to this year’s charity. She estimated the total donation will be about $1,000.

“We wanted to have a chance to have everyone come out and celebrate and get to help the March of Dimes,” Wilkerson said.

She went back to businesses Tuesday to ask for more items for the raffle. Businesses donated cakes, cookies and gift certificates which were then raffled Wednesday.

“So many people in Selma gave us things this year,” Wilkerson said.

Each year a different charity is chosen. Previous charities have been Selma Habitat for Humanity, SABRA Sanctuary and the Selma Food Bank received a donation of about $1000 last year.

Linda Morris and her group of friends have attended the event for as long as she can remember. “We celebrate every holiday together,” Morris said.

“St. Patrick’s Day is just another reason to get together with friends.”

Morris and Clay Carmichael both attended Monday and Wednesday.

“I think it’s always a good thing when it goes to a charity,” Carmichael said.

Instead of helping the business in the kitchen, as he once did when he worked as a chef with the restaurant, Carmichael enjoyed food and drink at the event.

He likes St. Patrick’s Day, but can’t name it as his favorite holiday. “Well, my birthday is on Christmas, so that’s got to be my favorite,” Carmichael said.
