The Selma-Dallas County branch of Sav-A-Life is gearing up to its eighth annual Walk for Life on April 17.
Sav-A-Life is a non-profit, non-denominational Christian organization that focuses on helping young families dealing with crisis pregnancies. Sav-A-Life is a pro-life group that tries to help out young mothers through Christian counseling and other means.
Everything the organization does is free of charge. To raise money, Sav-A-Life relies on the help of local churches as well as fundraisers such as Walk for Life.
“This is our biggest fundraiser each year,” said Jennifer Dobbs, director of Selma Sav-A-Life. “About half of our budget comes from the walk.”
Despite a low attendance the past two years, Dobbs is hoping people will not shy away from helping with the walk this year.
“We want people to realize how easy it is to raise money,” Dobbs said. “If we could get 100 walkers to get $10 from 20 sponsors then we will raise $20,000.”
The walk is two miles long and donations are taken for each of the participants.
“The walkers do not even have to collect the money,” said Dobbs. “If they bring in their pledge form, we will collect it for them.”
To participate in the Walk for Life or to donate to Sav-A-Life, Dobbs at 875-8900.
