Robert Slone

Robert M. Slone age 85 of Selma passed away on Monday March 1, 2010 at a local hospital.
Visitation will be at Lawrence Brown Funeral Home during the hours 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Thursday March 4.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 5, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at Elkdale Baptist Church with an USMC Honor Guard, with internment to follow at New Live Oak Cemetery.
Mr. Slone is preceded in death by his wife, Betty Jayne Youngkrantz Slone.
He is survived by his dearest friend, Hazel Ware, sister, Margaret Slone Whatley, his children, Mary Kaye Lewis (Jerry) of Panama City, FL, Thomas M. Slone (Debbie) of Richmond, KY, Robert M. Slone Jr (Cathy) of Madison, AL, 5 grandsons, 3 great-grandsons, and a number nieces and nephews.
Mr. Slone was a Christian, a patriot, and a decorated WWII veteran, having served in the US Marine Corps and was a member of Elkdale Baptist Church, the American Legion, the VFW, and the Lions Club.
He received a Purple Heart as a result of his military service on Guadalcanal.
He also was the owner of Slone’s Inc., an office equipment and supply business in Selma from 1954 until his retirement in 2009.
