Winter weather a possibility

Brief period of winter weather possible late Tuesday night into Wednesday.

Light rain has moved into Western Alabama. It should gradually shift eastward just ahead of a much colder air mass.

This affects Dallas, Marengo, Lowndes, Autauga and Perry counties, among others.

The rain could transition into a mix of ran and snow or all snow across much of Central Alabama.

The best chance of a complete changeover to snow is along and north of Interstate 20, although the heaviest precipitation is expected to fall farther south.

Temperatures are expected to fall into the low-to-middle 30s as far south as the Interstate 85/U.S. 80 corridor. South of this line, where the heaviest precipitation is expected, it will be primarily rainfall. A rain/snow mix could continue in East Central Alabama through 10 a.m. Wednesday.

As temperatures warm any lingering precipitation will change back over to rain.

Any accumulations will be minimal and likely confined to elevated surfaces, such as decks, roofs, the tops of vehicles and possibly elevated roadways.
