Nobody was injured in a fire that has destroyed a mobile home at 1812 Old Montgomery Highway.

The cause of the fire is unknown.

A crowd gathered Monday night to watch firefighters control the blaze.

Courtney Watts and his friends spotted the fire out of a window from a house nearby.

“We were all at the same window and saw that the trailer was on fire,” said Watts.

Watts said he told his friend Terrell Wilson to call the Selma Fire Department. “So I got on the phone and called,” Wilson said.

Firefighters arrived on the scene at 7:49 p.m., said Selma Fire Capt. Dale Duke.

“When we got here the structure was fully involved,” he said. “We will look into it. We will also get in touch with the state fire marshal and they will look into it, too.”

The fire department from Craig Field also arrived on the scene. Both complements contained the fire and put it out quickly.

“The mobile home was vacant,” said Duke. “We were able to put the fire out without any one being injured.”

People stood and watched.

“My friend and I came out when the fire department got here,” said Wilson. “We have been watching them since then.”

The crowd didn’t break up until the fire was completely extinguished.
