MONTGOMERY — It was not to be for Selma High School.

The Saints fell short of the AHSAA class AAAAA central regional tournament with a 62-49 loss in a rematch with Carver High School.

“We didn’t play our best game,” said Saint’s coach Woodie Jackson.

Selma looked to have a handle on the game early on jumping out to an 11-3 lead in the first quarter.

“We came out real strong,” said Jackson. “That first quarter we played real well and followed our game plan.”

The Wolverines survived the big first quarter from Selma and came out firing in the second.

Carver put up 21 points in the second quarter to pull ahead of Selma 24-18.

“We didn’t play well in the second quarter at all,” said Jackson. “We got away form the game plan of trying to get (Charles) Eaton the ball isolated.”

The third quarter did not turn out much better for the Saints.

Carver added another 16 points and Selma was only able to manage 8 points and at the start of the fourth quarter the Saints found themselves trailing 40-26.

To make matters worse the Saints found themselves in foul trouble the entire second half.

“The made more free-throws than we attempted,” said Jackson. “Some of that has to do with late in the game, but it didn’t help us at all.”

The Saints did try to come back in the last quarter, coming to within 9 of the Wolverines.

However, it was not to be for Selma and their season would end.

“We will see how the kids handle it,” said Jackson. “Then we’ll come back next year.”
