MONTGOMERY — The Morgan Academy Senators saw their season end during the first round of the AISA class AAA state tournament Tuesday 60-38 at the hands of Macon-East Academy at Huntingdon College.

The Senators were seemingly out-matched from the beginning of the game.

“They beat us in pretty much every aspect early,” said Morgan coach Eli Jackson. “We looked shell-shocked.”

The Senators fell behind early in the game with shooting struggles.

At the end of the first quarter they saw themselves down 16-4 to Macon-East.

Morgan shot a little better in the second quarter, but still could not handle Macon-East’s offensive onslaught and the Senators trailed 30-16 at the half.

“We played hard in this game, but we were out matched,” said Jackson.

The struggles continued after the half.

The inside presence of John Mielke and the three-point shooting of Colton Henderson for Macon-East allowed Macon to pull away even further.

“We have been outsized before, but tonight we struggled boxing out and getting the other team to our backs,’ said Jackson.

At the end of the third quarter Morgan trailed 53-28.

In the fourth quarter, the Senators kept fighting but still struggled before the game finally ended.

Coal Brown did have a good game for Morgan Academy scoring 17 points.

With their season over, Jackson talked about what his team meant to him this season.

“I am proud of all nine of these kids on this team,” said Jackson, “especially the four seniors that played for us. I couldn’t have scripted a better group of guys to practice and coach over the season.”
