A capsule look at 5 of Alabama’s top football signees, in alphabetical order:

Alfy Hill, lb/dl, 6-4, 245, West Brunswick HS, Shallotte, N.C.

SuperPrep All-American has the size and speed to be strong pass rusher. Four-star prospect rated among Top 70 players nationally by ESPNU, Tom Lemming and Rivals.com. Rated among nation’s Top 10 strongside defensive ends. Played in the Under Armour All-American Game. Rivals rates him the No. 3 player in North Carolina. As junior, had 112 tackles, 12 sacks and four blocked punts. Missed 2007 season with a broken wrist. First player from North Carolina to sign with Alabama since Jeff Dunn in the 1980s. Chose Alabama over North Carolina, North Carolina State, LSU, Clemson and South Carolina.

DeMarcus Milliner, db, 6-1, 180, Stanhope HS, Millbrook, Ala.:

Parade All-American and 5-star prospect. Rated No. 1 cornerback by Scout.com and SuperPrep, which also has him 11th-best overall. Speedy corner has vertical leap of nearly 40 inches, according to Alabama. Selected to the ESPN Under Armour All-America Game and played in the Alabama/Mississippi All-Star Game. Had three interceptions and 71 tackles as senior, and also averaged 9.5 yards on 51 carries offensively. As a junior, returned two punts and a kickoff for touchdown. Has a chance for immediate playing time with Alabama losing cornerbacks Kareem Jackson and Javier Arenas. Fellow signees John Fulton and safety Jarrick Williams among others comprising one of nation’s top defensive back groups.

C.J. Mosley, lb, 6-2, 220, Theodore (Ala.) HS

Parade and U.S. Army All-American, who had school-record 500-plus career tackles and top two single-season performances. Two-time Class 6A all-state pick by state sports writers and the Class 6A Lineman of the Year last season. Rivals.com has him as No. 6 outside linebacker prospect. Had seven sacks, five fumble recoveries and four interceptions as senior. Chose Alabama over Auburn, Tennessee, Florida State, Georgia, Arkansas, Stanford, Oklahoma and LSU.

QB Phillip Sims,

Enrolled early and will go through spring practice. Five-star prospect by Scout.com, rated No. 2 prostyle quarterback by Rivals and Scout. Parade and USA Today All-American. Named Associated Press’ Virginia state player of the year as senior after passing for 2,960 yards and 33 touchdowns with 10 interceptions as senior. His 10,725 career yards and 119 touchdown passes are Virginia High School League records. Sims finished with a 48-8 career record and won a state title. As a junior, he threw for 3,167 yards and 38 touchdowns.

DeAndrew White, wr, 6-0, 177, North Shore HS, Houston:

Speedy wideout’s ratings vary fairly widely among recruiting services, but SuperPrep picks him as No. 6 wide receiver nationally. U.S. Army and SuperPrep All-American. One of the top prospects in talent-rich Texas. White caught 32 passes for 473 yards and nine touchdowns, but averaged 23.6 yards per catch and scored 10 TDs as junior. The Texas 5A 200-meter dash champion in 2008. He picked Tide over teams including LSU, Texas A&M, Oklahoma State, Florida, Baylor and Texas.
