Concordia College will honor its first class of the Army Reserve Officers’ Training Corps Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the Wright Auditorium on campus.

Brig. Gen. Sheryl E. Gordon, assistant adjutant general for the Alabama National Guard and George P. Evans, mayor, City of Selma, will participate.

Cadet Elise Minor will be promoted to the rank of cadet captain by Gordon. Gordon is the first female general officer in the history of the Alabama Army National Guard.

Cadet Minor and her twin sister, Erica, are Selma natives. They were graduated from Selma High School May 27, 2005. After graduation, both sisters join the Alabama National Guard.

Elise was mobilized with her National Guard unit and served in Iraq and Kuwait for one. Cadet Elise Minor was awarded the Army Commendation Medal; the Army Achievement Medal; National Defense Service Medal; Global War on Terrorism Service Medal; Iraq Campaign Medal with Campaign Star; Army Service Ribbon; Army Overseas Ribbon; Armed Forces Reserve Medal with “M” device; and the Combat Action Badge.

Upon her return to Selma, Minor joined the new Army ROTC program at the college.

“ We are delighted that Cadet Elise Minor joined the Army ROTC program at Concordia College. She is a perfect example of the high quality individuals that makes our Army the best in the world,” said Lt.Col. Nicolas Britto, assistant professor of military science, Concordia College.
