With the reopening of the Globe Specialty Metals plant, Selma is showing signs of a slow, but steady, recovery from the recession this country has felt within the last year.

Globe Specialty Metals is one of the world’s largest producers of silicon metal and silicon-based specialty alloys, which are the main ingredients in many industrial and consumer products.

As Gov. Bob Riley and company officials welcome the reopening of this plant, Globe Specialty Metals will welcome numerous jobs for residents, as well as an influx of exports.

The company idled the Selma plant in April 2009. It then went through renovations.

The facility has been revamped with the technology to produce approximately 30,000 metric tons of metallurgical grade silicon annually.

So, to every person commenting about the downturn of the economy and the struggles of finding employment in a recession, toss back a comment of your own.

Slowly, Selma may be working its way back to becoming a strong and independent city.
