John Averett

John Gurthy Averett, 98 of Selma, AL. died Jan. 22, 2010 at Vaughan Regional Medical Center, Selma, Alabama. He was born December 17, 1911 in Hale County to the late John David and Annie Averett.
Mr. Averett was preceded in death by his first wife, Sarvella Smith Averett; brothers, Perfidy Averett, Murphy Averett, Luther Averett, and Lester Averett; sisters, Murty Lyles and Murvel Montz.
Survivors include his wife, Ondean N. Averett; daughters, Frances Lamon of Selma, Jonnie Webb (Ben) of York, Joyce Gordy (Billy) of Cuba, Carolyn Fondren (Bert) of Selma; one sister, Willie Dee Woods of Akron; eight grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.
Active pallbearers were Frank Lamon, John Lamon, Michael Fondren, Tom Webb, Bob Webb, and Kevin Gordy.
Honorary pallbearers were William Fields, Burton Fuller, Ed Fuller, Bert Fuller, and Jonathan McCluskey.
Funeral services were held Monday January 25, 2010 at 11 a.m. at Westwood Baptist Church Highway 80 West Selma, Alabama with the Reverends Dr. Edward Eaton and Jim Shumate officiating and Kirk Funeral Homes Marion Chapel directing. The family received friends from 10-11 a.m. at the church prior to the service. A graveside service was held at 2 p.m Monday at Mt. Hermon United Methodist Church Cemetery in the Mt. Hermon community outside of Greensboro, Alabama.
