Jean Rockwell

Jean Heinz Rockwell, 81, died January 17, 2010 at 11:20 PM at Park Place Nursing Home. Services will be at 2:00 PM today, January 19th at the First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Dr. Ron Stone officiating. Burial will follow in New Live Oak Cemetery with Lawrence-Brown Service directing.
Mrs. Rockwell was born in Selma February 10, 1928, the daughter of Frances Allen and Chris B. Heinz. Her father was a long-time mayor of the City of Selma. She attended Selma public schools, graduating from Albert G. Parrish High School with the class of 1946, and attended Huntingdon College. She returned to Selma and in September, 1948, married Almon Stoddard Rockwell, a Pharmacist with Carter Drug Co. For 35 years she worked with several local dentists as a hygienist. Mrs. Rockwell was an active member of the Selma Community belonging to the First Presbyterian Church, the Selma Charity League, Colonial Dames, Pandora, and the Daughters of the American Revolution. She maintained contact with her high school friends in the “Wednesday Lunch Bunch” which met weekly at the Selma Country Club for many years.
Her husband of 56 years died in 2004. She is survived by her three children: Chris Singley (Tony), Ernest Bishop Rockwell, and Fran Rockwell Stewart; her sister, Fredreica Heinz Atkins; five grandchildren, Rab Stewart, Al Singley, Cory Singley, Shelbi Wilson, and Shelton Singley; and four great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be John Morris, Vaughan Russell, Jere Peak, Clint Wilkinson III, John Russell, Jr., and Ben Cosby. Honorary pallbearers are Russell Buster, John A. Russell, Robert Tate, Miller Childers, Jack Brown, Kenneth Brown, A.J.M. Atkins, Victor Atkins, Gillis Cammack, John Callaway and Jeff Ratcliffe.
