Jeanne Stokes Barton Coleman passed away on Wednesday, December 30, 2009 at her home in Marion, Alabama. Graveside services will be held on Sat., January 2, 2010 at Heiberger Methodist Church Cemetery at 2 p.m. with Kirk Funeral Homes Marion Chapel directing and Dr. Michael Brooks and The Reverend Doctor Luis Orteza officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior the service in the Heiberger Methodist Church Fellowship Hall.
She is preceded in death by her parents; Walter and Willie Belle Stokes of Fort Deposit, Alabama; her husband Leonard Morris Barton, Sr.; her son, Leonard Morris Barton, Jr.; her grandson, Joseph Spivey Hardy, II; son-in-law, Joseph Jackson Hardy; and sister, Betty Stokes Rives.
She is survived by her husband, LTC. Rennie C. Coleman, Jr. (Ret); daughters, Sharon Barton Hardy of Selma, AL and Lynn Barton Duffy (Bob) of Birmingham; her grandsons, Robert Bradford Duffy (Dee Dee), Kyle Barton Duffy, both of Birmingham, and Leonard Morris Barton, III of Selma, AL and one great grandson, Peter Alexander Duffy.
She also leaves behind a daughter-in-law, Teresa Justice; stepchildren, Rennie C. Coleman, III (Janet), Renee Hansen (Christian), Susan Santos (Emanuel), and her special caregiver, Nancy Porter.
Mrs. Coleman was born March 19, 1929. She attended Judson College in Marion, Alabama. After marrying Leonard Morris Barton and rearing three children, she worked at the Perry County Courthouse for many years. In 1993, she married Rennie Coleman, a native of Perry County, and moved to Manassas, VA. Upon moving back to Marion, she and her husband have been active members of the Marion Presbyterian Church for the last nine years.
