Ann Wood

Ann Majors Wood of Tyler, Alabama, died on Christmas Eve at a local hospital after a brief illness. Mrs. Wood was born October 23, 1941 and died Thursday, December 24, 2009.
Ann attended Southside Elementary School, Selma Jr. High and A.G. Parrish High School and graduated in 1960. She graduated from Alabama College (Montevallo) in 1964 and worked as a social worker for DHR until she retired. She received The State of Alabama Commissioners Merit Award and was commended by the Alabama State Legislature.
Ann was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Denzil Majors and a nephew David Porter.
She was married July 19, 1974, and is survived by her husband Jimmy Wood, on stepson, Jimmy R. Wood, and one stepdaughter Elizabeth Ann Baker. Also surviving is one sister Carolyn Majors Porter (George) and one niece Karen Porter, numerous step grandchildren and in-laws Anderson Wood, Wayne Wood (Beth), Steve Wood (Peggy), Ellis Wood (Ruth Ann), Glenda Sue Abbot, Hazel Riley (Dunny), Sheila Kay Garret Linda Pierce and numerous nephews and nieces.
Ann was a lifetime lover of animals and was known for caring for homeless dogs and cats. She also loved her farm where she was raised and enjoyed flowers and gardening.
Visitation will be held Sunday evening from 6-8 P.M. at the Selma Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Monday, December 28, 2009 at Sister Springs Baptist Church Cemetery, Tyler, Alabama.
