David Weedon, Sr.

David Allen Weedon, Sr. age 84 of Selma, died in Park Place Nursing Home Friday, December 18, 2009. Visitation was held at Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home, December 21, 2009 at 1:00 with a procession immediately following to Ivy Creek United Methodist Church Cemetery for graveside services at 3:00. Rev. Ed Eaton officiated and Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home directed.
Mr. Weedon is preceded in death by his father; Walter E. Weedon, mother, Leola Weedon, brother, Walter Weedon Jr., and brother, Jack Weedon.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Jonnie Lou Weedon of Statesville; sister, Doris Jackson of Greensboro, brother; Otis Weeden of Burnsville, sister in law; Joyce Weeden of Greensboro, sons; David Allen Weedon Jr. (Lottie) of Statesville, Walter Clifton “Cliff” Weedon (Ruth Ann) of Autaugaville, and Oscar Wayne Weedon (Dee) of Memphis, Tn.; Grandchildren; Steve Weedon, Wendy McFarland, Katelyn Weedon, David P. Weedon, Whitney Weedon, Emily Weedon, and June Gazell, and 7 great grandchildren; Hunter Crawford, Lauren Gazell, Kaden Gazell, Grant Weedon, Garrett Weedon, Logan Weedon, and Anabelle Weedon.
Mr. Weedon was a proud member of the U.S. Navy serving as a Signalman 1c on the USS COPAHEE (CVE 12). He was awarded medals for his service in the Asiatic Pacific Area Campaign (1 star), American Area Campaign, WWII Victory, and Good conduct.
He retired as a transportation supervisor for the Autauga County Board of Education.
Pallbearers will be Steve Weedon, David Weedon, Bert Weeden Russell Weeden, Lee Jackson, and Jimmy Rolen.
The family request memorials to be sent to Ivy Creek United Methodist Church.
