I am a firm believer that private companies can and will do a better job than government can 99 percent of the time. With that said, outsourcing garbage collection should be the exception.

If the city cannot (or will not) compel people to pay garbage bills, when they have the power of the courts, it is insane to think a private company can.

The private companies will have to deny service to the ones who do not pay, thus leading to fewer customers and higher fees. That will lead to even fewer customers to the point of the city having to take over garbage collections again.

The mayor and city council were elected to handle our city’s business. If they fail on such a simple issue as garbage collection, they should all resign.
