Eva Mae West Irby, 78, resident of Alberta, AL, died November 21, 2009 in Selma, AL. Services are scheduled for November 28, 2009 at 1:30 P.M. at the Selma Community Bible Church officiated by Pastor Jerald Stallworth. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery directed by Lewis Brothers Funeral Home.
Eva Mae West Irby was born on September 10, 1931 in Alberta, AL to the late John and Mary West Sr. She confessed Christ at an early age and joined the Welcome A.M.E. Church. Eva was educated at the Wilcox County Training School in Millers Ferry, AL.
On February 4, 1950 she united in Holy Matrimony with J.C. Irby. To this union, four children were born. After marriage, Eva united with Oak Grove Baptist Church. After her health began to fail, she moved to Selma and united with Selma Community Bible Church.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 42 years, J.C. Irby; one sister, Fannie Bates of El Paso Texas; and two brothers, James West of Bostaon MA and Eddie West of Houston, TX.
She leaves to cherish her memories; four children, Anne McMillan, Birmingham, AL, William Irby (Debbie), Boston, MA, Helen Strong (Calvin Sr.), Selma, AL, and Calvin Irby (Stacey), Alberta, AL; seven grandchildren, Michelle Woodhouse, Houston, TX, Alton McMillan (Erika), Tuscaloosa, AL, Shakima Irby, Upper Marlboro, MD, Aaron Woodhouse and Calvin Strong Jr, Selma, AL, Shenavia Irby, Alberta, AL, and Rayshon Irby, Boston, MA; three great-grandchildren, Jaaron and Jaaden McMillan, Tuscaloosa, AL, and Jayden Wright, Upper Marlboro, MD; three sisters, Creola Potter (Cleveland), Houston, TX, Mildred Patterson, Boston, MA and Gladys MCampbell (Morgan), McDonough, GA; three brothers, Dan West, Wylam, AL, John West (Sarah), Queen Village, NY, and Robert West Sr, (Gloria), McDonough, GA; one brother in law, Timothy Bates, El Paso TX; four sisters in law, Eva West, Pine Hill, AL, Gazetta West, Houston, TX, Emma Irby, Mobile, AL, and Bernice McMillon, Selma, AL; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
